NEW: three PhD projects advertised for Oct. ’21 start:

Disentangling coseismic complexity in the earthquake cycle, using seismology and geodesy – Durham University

Towards global landslide detection from satellite radar – Durham University

Fault distributions and seismic hazard in evolving normal fault networks – University of Edinburgh

Richard Walters

I am an earthquake geophysicist, researching active tectonic processes. My focus is on understanding how earthquakes occur, how the Earth’s crust deforms both in response to earthquakes and long-term tectonic stresses, and how earthquake hazard and associated secondary hazards (e.g. triggered landslides) vary in space and time. I am a…

Join Us!

Our group is rapidly growing- please get in touch if you are interested in joining us. PhD projects with funding for UK-based graduates are available each year through the IAPETUS2 Doctoral Training Programme (DTP). Projects are advertised each Autumn, with an application deadline in January.

International students may be eligible for support through one or more of several competitive scholarship schemes (e.g. Durham Doctoral Studentships, CSC Chinese Scholarships). Deadlines for these schemes are usually between early December and mid January.

We are also happy to support applications for independent Postdoctoral Fellowships in relevant research areas (e.g. NERC/Leverhulme/Royal Society).
